Job Description: This job is responsible for handling moderately complex operations processes related to credit disputes, escalations and tax reporting. Key responsibilities include analysis, research, reconciliation, reporting data validation and resolution of issues and identified customer requests which may carry high levels of risk within enterprise risk categories. Job expectations include handling moderately complex transaction processing, reconciliation, and resolution of research requests to clients, consumer reporting agencies or taxing authorities, consulting with management for support. Consumer Wealth Tax Operations, a department within Data, Reporting & Operations Management (DROM), is responsible for multiple tax related functions to support Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and State regulatory required tax reporting and withholding payments, on behalf of consumer and wealth clients within Merrill, Private Bank, Retirement & Personal Wealth Solutions and Investment Solutions Group. The Tax Operations Payment, Filings & Solicitation Team is responsible for the daily reconciliation and tax withholding payment remittances to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and States for Retirement, Retail and Non-Resident accounts, ensuring the accurate and timely payment on behalf of multiple legal entities. The Associate will be responsible for completing daily, weekly and monthly quality assurance (QA) functions that reduce risk and provide necessary separation of duties related to the overall department control environment, including tax payments, federal and state tax filings, withholding inquiries, processing tax withholding reversals and manual withholding adjustments to be in compliance with regulatory requirements and to ensure that all activity is done accurately and timely. Additionally, the Associate will be responsible for general ledger reconciliation for the tax withholding ledgers as per the enterprise Account Reconciliation Policy. The position will work closely with teams across Tax Reporting to maintain appropriate controls and ensure we are meeting our requirements and maintaining a strong control environment. **This position will require overtime during tax season. Principle Accountabilities: § Review daily tax withholding payments to perform inline quality assurance and ensure accuracy prior to remittance to the IRS/States § Review all manual processing to assess accuracy, completeness & timeliness per established regulatory tax rules, procedures and service level agreements (SLAs) utilizing the Integrated Quality Systems workflow tool § Escalate any issues or concerns found during QA reviews to management § Ensure all QA reviews are completed with the established timelines to ensure timely resolution or remediation is completed § Reconcile tax withholding ledgers daily, identifying variances and escalating as required § Complete monthly Frontier attestation for tax withholding ledgers § Collaborate with management and teams within and outside Tax Operations on process enhancements § Tasks might be assigned as needed contingent to the team’s work load.
