Interview preparation checklist

Six things to have ready before an interview, from the stories you will tell to the link you will join from.

Tick each one as you finish it

1. Re-read the job description and your application.
Note the three requirements the interviewer is most likely to ask about.
2. Prepare three stories from real work using STAR: situation, task, action, result.
The National Careers Service suggests answering questions with the STAR method. Use results you can back up.
3. Prepare one honest answer for each gap.
Say what you have not done yet and what you are doing about it.
4. Write down two or three questions to ask them.
Ask about the work, the team and how success is measured.
5. Check the logistics: time zone, link or address, and any ID you need.
Join or arrive a few minutes early, and test your audio and camera the day before.
6. Send a short thank-you note within a day.
Thank them, repeat one point from the conversation and confirm your interest.
