The Financial Analyst will be a trusted finance partner to the R&D organization and the Office of the CFO, supporting the financial strategy behind complex development programs, ARPA-H grant administration, and milestone-based innovation investments. This role will provide budgeting, forecasting, reporting, governance, and business analysis that help leaders make informed decisions across actuals, forecast, budget, cost share, intangible development, and grant-funded activities.
As the organization evolves from an R&D-focused environment toward commercialization, this position will play a visible role in building scalable finance processes, strengthening controls, supporting milestone execution, and providing commercial readiness insights related to cost structure, resource planning, profitability, intangible asset development, and long-term operational performance.
- Lead R&D project controlling activities, including budget development, forecasting, variance analysis, cost tracking, and financial commentary for R&D programs.
- Administer ARPA-H grant financial processes, including milestone reporting, cost share tracking, WBS and cost object governance, time-reporting support, documentation retention, and audit readiness.
- Partner cross-functionally with R&D, project management, finance, procurement, and external collaborators to ensure grant-funded activities are properly planned, monitored, reported, and controlled.
- Support month-end close and financial reporting activities, including accruals, settlements, journal entry support, account reviews, dashboards, and executive summaries covering actuals, forecast, budget, risks, and milestone status.
- Develop financial models that support the transition from R&D to Commercial, including cost structure analysis, scenario planning, margin modeling, business model scaling, and commercial readiness dashboards.
- Support intangible development tracking and capitalization analysis by partnering with Finance, R&D, Tax, and Accounting to evaluate project milestones, eligible costs, technical feasibility documentation, and capitalization readiness.
- Assist with impairment modeling and related financial analysis, including cash flow assumptions, sensitivity analysis, risk indicators, and management reporting for development programs and intangible assets.
- Support audit, tax, government funding, and compliance requests by maintaining accurate records, timely financial evidence, and clear process documentation.
- Bring curiosity, ownership, and continuous improvement thinking to strengthen financial controls, streamline processes, and improve operational finance support as the business grows in scope and complexity.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required; advanced degree or professional certification preferred.
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, controlling, FP&A, project finance, or grant administration preferred.
- Experience supporting R&D, engineering, product development, or technology-focused organizations strongly preferred.
- Ability to turn complex financial data into concise, actionable insights for business leaders, including variance analysis, trend analysis, scenario modeling, and executive-level commentary.
- Strong understanding of project accounting, WBS structures, cost center reporting, accruals, month-end close, and financial controls.
- Experience with grant administration, government-funded programs, milestone-based contracts, or audit-supported financial reporting is a plus.
- Exposure to intangible asset development, capitalization assessments, impairment modeling, discounted cash flow analysis, or valuation-related finance work is preferred.
- Commercial finance experience, including order-to-cash, revenue, gross profit, margin analysis, or business model scaling, is beneficial as the organization prepares for commercialization.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills required; experience with SAP, dashboards, digital planning tools, or business intelligence platforms preferred.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across Finance, R&D, Operations, Procurement, and external partners.
- A proactive, collaborative mindset with a passion for building scalable finance processes, supporting innovation, and helping a growing business make disciplined, data-driven decisions.
