We are seeking Front-end Software Engineers who are passionate about leveraging cutting-edge open source frameworks and emerging technologies. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of driving a major transformation across Capital One.

Our team builds high-impact, customer-facing web applications that introduce millions of users to primary credit card products. We specialize in crafting highly optimized, public-facing digital marketing experiences using a modern front-end stack centered on Angular, TypeScript/JS, Semantic HTML, CSS/SCSS, and advanced content management systems. As an engineer on this team, you will dive into a robust, cloud-hosted environment with an emphasis on rigorous testing, optimization tools, and a push toward next-generation agentic AI tools. What You’ll Do:

Partner with Software Engineers, Designers, and Product Managers to deliver high-performing, quality features for 100M+ customers that are engaging, purposeful and powerful in their simplicity
Partner with product leaders to influence multi-quarter engineering roadmaps (e.g., modernization, modularization, data flow) ensuring alignment with broader business goals
Architect, build, and maintain core components and shared libraries that act as a force multiplier for multiple teams within your product area
Contribute to standards for cross-platform consistency, scalability, and accessibility across front-end experiences
Serve as a subject matter expert in critical areas like web performance, networking, or design systems, influencing patterns and standards across teams
Partner with infrastructure and backend teams to define and improve CI/CD, observability, and reliability engineering practices, standardizing release practices
Define strategies for leveraging agentic AI tools across multiple teams, including specialized agents, skills and tools built on open standards (e.g., Model Context Protocol), to standardize workflows
Mentor and guide senior engineers in building AI-native workflows, shaping the next generation of technical leaders proficient in agentic coding
Apply mastery of the modern web ecosystem (including PWAs, Wasm, mobile web, and Service Workers) to make complex, high-leverage, hands-on technical contributions that solve the most challenging problems within your product area

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
At least 6 years of professional experience in software engineering (internship experience does not apply)
At least 6 years of experience developing applications using TypeScript, HTML, CSS and modern web frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, Svelte)
At least 3 years of experience architecting or leading the development of federated front-end or design systems with cross-application adoption

Preferred Qualifications:

7+ years of experience with TypeScript and JavaScript
7+ years of experience with modern web frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue, Svelte), HTML and CSS
Proven experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Cypress, Playwright) and modular architecture
Experience providing technical leadership for a large product area, influencing its technical vision and roadmap
Experience leading the design of multi-team components or contributing to shared design systems
Experience developing and scaling client Backend-for-Frontends (BFFs) and defining efficient data-fetching strategies using protocols like gRPC/Protobuf
Expertise in release health indicators, metrics-driven canary release, and feature flag strategies
Expertise with agentic AI coding tools and developer productivity patterns

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $229,900 - $262,400 for Front-end Engineer 5

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
