Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Caterpillar is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to support a high-volume North America collection litigation portfolio. This role will work closely with in-house attorneys, outside counsel, and business teams to help manage cases efficiently from intake through resolution and closure.

The ideal candidate is an experienced, highly organized litigation professional who understands the full litigation lifecycle and can successfully manage a large, fast-moving caseload. Experience in financial services, commercial lending, equipment finance, banking, collections, secured transactions, or related commercial litigation is particularly valuable.

Also of great value is a candidate’s ability to apply critical thinking and litigation experience to identify patterns, risks, and opportunities across the litigation portfolio; challenge existing practices when appropriate and help develop more effective strategies, processes, tools, and approaches for managing cases, outside counsel, costs, recoveries, and litigation risk.

What You'll Do

  • Help manage a high-volume portfolio of North America litigation matters, maintaining accurate case information, deadlines, calendars, status reports, and documentation.
  • Track pleadings, discovery, depositions, hearings, mediations, settlements, trials, and other key litigation milestones.
  • Assist attorneys with legal and factual research, document review, written discovery, document production, deposition and hearing preparation, and other litigation support.
  • Draft and organize pleadings, correspondence, case chronologies, summaries, reports, and other legal materials under attorney supervision.
  • Serve as a key coordination point among in-house counsel, outside counsel, and business teams, ensuring requests, information, and case updates move efficiently.
  • Work with financial and business records, including account statements, payment histories, financing records, balances, settlement information, and damages calculations.
  • Support litigation holds, document preservation, and the secure handling of privileged, confidential, and sensitive information.
  • Help improve litigation tracking, reporting, document management, and outside counsel coordination.

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated paralegal or comparable legal support experience involving litigation.
  • Strong working knowledge of the litigation process, from case intake and pleadings through discovery, trial preparation, settlement, and case closure.
  • Experience managing a high-volume caseload or similarly complex legal workload.
  • Excellent organization, deadline management, attention to detail, written communication, and judgment.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with attorneys, outside counsel, and multiple business stakeholders.
  • Legal research, drafting, proofreading, document-review, and case-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic document or matter-management tools.
  • Degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent relevant experience.

What You Will Have:

  • Litigation experience involving financial services, banking, lending, commercial or equipment finance, collections, creditor rights, secured transactions, bankruptcy-related matters, or other finance-based disputes.
  • Corporate legal department experience and familiarity with e-discovery, legal holds, docketing, e-billing, or matter-management systems are also valuable.
  • Project management and/or process improvement experience would be a plus.
