Job Title: Software Engineer (Backend)

Department & Team: JM & EDP — Journey Data Team

Location: Galway (Flexible, 2–3 office days per week)

Summary

We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join the Journey Data team at Genesys.

You will be responsible for helping to build out the Genesys Cloud’s Event Data Platform, a key pillar for Agentic Orchestration in Genesys.

You will work closely with a team of engineers and product managers to ideate, build, operate, and scale customer-facing features across the full software development lifecycle.

You will get the opportunity to work with exciting technologies like Amazon Web Services (cloud computing), Jenkins (CI/CD), New Relic & Sumo Logic (monitoring/telemetry), and a wide array of proprietary Genesys software.

You will be part of our transition into an AI-assisted world, helping us adopt and develop new AI tooling like Skills, Agents, and MCPs to redefine the way we work, deliver software, and bring intelligence into our products.

About Our Team

Our team is key contributor to the Event Data Platform, mainly centred around Customer Journey.

Some of our key focus areas include Customer Segmentation – grouping customers by shared attributes and behaviours to provide context and enrichment for personalisation across both traditional and agentic orchestration, and Predictive Engagement – proactively engaging with web and mobile visitors to provide assistance at critical points in their customer journey.

Minimum Requirements

- 2+ years of industry experience in software engineering.

- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.

- Demonstrated proficiency with Java and Spring Boot (or other similar languages and frameworks) for backend software systems.

- Demonstrated proficiency with multi-layered testing approaches: unit, integration, and user-acceptance testing.

- Experience implementing event-driven architecture patterns and REST APIs.

- Experience integrating with Cloud-based technologies for deploying and managing software systems.

- Experience deploying and shipping code using modern CI/CD processes and technologies.

- Experience building databases and designing scalable and efficient access patterns.

- Proactive, self-driven learner with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, able to adopt new technologies and navigate ambiguity in an agile environment.

- Demonstrated awareness of modern AI technologies and their implications (safety, privacy, reliability), with role-appropriate skills developed through training and applied practice.

- Cross-functional collaboration skills, able to work effectively with product, design, QA, and other teams to drive shared outcomes.

- Confident communicator with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Independent worker who drives initiatives to completion with minimal oversight

Desirable Skills

- Experience building agentic AI systems (Agents, Skills, MCPs integrations), using them to improve engineering workflows, and enhance user-facing product capabilities.

- Experience implementing common resiliency patterns in distributed microservice architectures: circuit breakers, bulkheads, rate limiting, and retries.

- Experience implementing NoSQL database design, access patterns, and data modelling for high-throughput, low-latency workloads.

- Experience maintaining services end-to-end, from technical design contribution through to production observability.

- Experience with performance optimisation and troubleshooting production systems at scale.

- Experience integrating Amazon Web Services (or similar): EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, IAM, CloudFormation into software systems.

- Experience implementing and leveraging supporting technologies (or similar): Jenkins, Terraform, New Relic, OpenTelemetry, Sumo Logic, Kafka, Avro, Resilience4j, Swagger/OpenAPI.

- Experience writing and owning infrastructure-as-code: designing modules, managing state, and handling multi-environment deployments.

- Experience writing in other programming languages used in supporting services: JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Groovy.
